The 28th Mississippi Conference on Church music and liturgy welcomes Mark Engelhardt, David Ashley White and Joe Robinson. This year’s conference continues our focusing on a particular part of the Liturgical Calendar. Our theme in music and liturgy will be the great fifty days of Easter - High feast of the Church and a time of reflection on the gifts of life and resurrection. Vespers, Evensong, offered at Historic Church of the Holy Trinity, Vicksburg, a service of Lessons and Anthems designed for the season, and a Festival Eucharist at Saint Andrew’s Cathedral round out the liturgical week.
Can the church come to own its responsibility to celebrate with the same passion and zeal with which we keep the fasts of Lent and Holy Week. What gifts await a people washed with light that pours form an empty tomb? What musical applications could be appropriate for this new experience of Easter? What does it mean to be resurrection people, bound to one another and bound to God by the mystery of Life restored in Christ, by Christ and with Christ. Come share a week of learning, music liturgy and community in Vicksburg, July 29 - August 3, 2003.
